BSL Brings Life to New Report on Climate Change
October 8, 2010
The National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE) and the Royal Canadian Geographical Society have just released a revealing study on the impending impacts of climate change on the Canadian landscape. Presented in a comprehensive diagram called Degrees of Change, the report projects 59 different ways a one-to-five degree rise in temperature would have on ice, ecosystems, water resources, human health, infrastructure, industry and security. The government-funded report is based on a documented body of previously published scientific information.
Degrees of Change addresses which areas will be forced to adapt to the change, and conversely, some areas that will prosper as a result of the increase (climate change doesn’t actually mean bad news for everything). The release of the diagram is gaining significant media coverage, as our new Governor General and founding chair of NRTEE David Johnston heads a series of regional panel discussions with Canadian experts over the next two weeks – hitting Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Saskatoon, and Vancouver.
BSL has worked closely with our clients at Canadian Geographic to design and develop the Degrees of Change diagram and corresponding interactive website, incorporating photos and flash animations to help clearly illustrate much of the complex research that resulted from the report. In support of the website BSL has also updated our ongoing Canadian Online Atlas project with a section dedicated to climate prosperity.
