Place d’Orleans Breaks Guinness Record
October 2, 2010
The BSL video team headed to Place d’Orleans this past Saturday, to document a little history in the making. Together with HOT 89.9 and the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa, Place d’Orleans welcomed hundreds of people into the shopping centre this weekend to take part in the largest broadcast sing-along ever recorded, to help kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month. With the initial requirement of just 317 people, our clients at Place d’Orleans were thrilled to witness a final turnout of almost double the number of singers required. The lucky song chosen was ‘Lean on Me’ (originally sung by Bill Withers), and was a heartwarming tribute to the years of invaluable support the Children’s Aid Society has given to Ottawa’s youth community.
Our boys with the cameras showed up bright and early to capture the mounting excitement of the swelling crowd (with our latest toy – the incomparable Steadi-cam), and it wasn’t long before the foyer was packed full of families and friends from around the city, and more than a few curious shoppers. When all was sung and done, the effect was felt in a sea of cheers and hugs, and even a few tears – surely a mixture of the bittersweet cause, along with the rarity of being part of Guinness history.
