Staff Profile – Jimmy Jheeta
Senior Digital Media Developer

Here at BSL, we believe our success isn't just about the work we do, but about the people who do it. We recently sat down with our Senior Digital Media Developer, Jimmy Jheeta, and picked his brain on all things web.

How long have you been in web development?

I've been in the web field for over twelve years.

Where did you start your career?

I started off in Montreal and New York City, working for various start-up companies in the dot-com era, before settling down in Gatineau.

Although website projects have their fair share of headaches, has there been any recently that you really enjoyed working on, or are especially proud of?

Hahha, actually, I am proud of all the projects that I work on, because I try to learn from every project that I do. I preserve it because I need it. It keeps me sharp, on the edge, where I gotta be. I try to add new features for every new project, to keep up with the ever changing landscape of the web.

Do you have any comments on the release of CSS 3/HTML 5?

I am really excited about the new features from CSS3 and HTML 5. I’ve even begun to implement some of new multi-platform features with the web projects we have. Though we won’t be able to use these to its full capacity as of yet, it is going to help change and move the online industry forward.

If you could have any career other than your current one, what would it be?

Urban Planner/Architect/City Manager

If you could give our clients one piece of advice about effective web development, what would it be?

You have five seconds to make a good impression, and we make the best of it. A good web development team works closely with key people to discover the true purpose of the site, to develop content and online strategies. As we go through the process, you will begin to understand that each piece of a web project is intrinsically attached to every other piece. And in the end, the most successful sites are usually moving, changing and growing to meet the needs of changing markets.

If you could give the junior web developers one piece of advice, what would it be?

This ain’t a 9-5 job, this is a lifestyle you choose. The online landscape is changing rapidly every day, so it is only beneficial for you that you stay on top of what is going on. Also, don’t take criticism too hard. There are various ways to handle a project, so be humble and open to new possibilities.
